The Scottish Archery Association runs the 'Community Sports Leader Award in Scotland on behalf of the UK governing body the Grand National Archery Society
Leaders teach beginners to shoot, mainly in activity holiday centres, sports centres, educational establishments and youth organisations.
The award is primarily intended for use out-with the Grand National Archery Society and is available to both members and non-members of the society.
Candidates for the award, who must be a minimum of 17 years of age on the day of assessment, will be trained and assessed by accredited coaches of the society.
Previous experience of archery is not a pre-requisite.
Course duration will be a minimum of 25 hours.
It is recommended that the course be conducted over two sessions of two days each, from one to four weeks apart with the final day of the course being reserved for the assessment. This arrangement allows time for trainees to assimilate the imparted information and to practise their personal skills. The maximum number of participants on a course with only one tutor shall be twelve candidates.
The Leader grade is only for the instruction of beginners: leaders are not permitted to teach others to teach.
If you are interested in organising a course for your organisation or you are an individual seeking an opportunity to get on a course that may have vacancies contact the SAA Leader Award Co-ordinator to discuss your requirements.
