Practical ideas for raising money
In raising funds to send a team to the Commonwealth Cup in India, we are looking for lots of people to get involved in raising relatively small amounts of money. They idea is simply that many hands will make light work.
Recents ideas
Hazel Elliott came out with a really unique way of raising funds:
- She got out her craft kit and hand made individually unique key rings that she sold at the Eastern Area champs.
Penicuik Archers have recently raised funds in the following ways:
- At the Scottish U/21, they ran a guess the name of the toy rabbit competition.
- At the Premier, they ran three fund raisers. First, they ran a raffle including a rare bottle of 1979 Lagavulin whisky, the newly published book 'Archery the Art of Repetiton' donated by the author Simon Needham and a voucher from Stan & Shirley Seymour from their newly formed company. Second, they ran a guess the number of sweets in a jar competition. Finally, Armex Ltd Birmingham (an established supplier to sporting trades) donated 2 practice 'rice straw' bosses which were sold to archers.
We have had a great idea from Brian Strachan:
- When my wife was chair person at our primary school PTA, every year they were allowed in to our local supermarket to bag pack, it had only 8 tills and in a day, 10 till 4, they could reliably raise £500, the bigger the supermarket the better.
Also, what about approaching your employer as many companies add to fund raising by their employees, such as Marks & Spencer, Tesco and the Royal Bank of Scotland.
Ideas from Clubs
Here are a few that we know of today:
- All competitive archers will be aware of the fund raised for the Juniors through sales of burgers at events and raffles.
- Links Archers have also successfully raised funds by writing to their local businesses.
Ideas from Sportscotland
There are many ways to raise money. There is an extensive document from Sport Scotland with many ideas. Below are a few that we have picked out:
- Social events – for instance quiz nights, race nights, discos, street parties
- Sponsored sports events – running or archery even!
- 100 club – a monthly prize draw
