Writing to local businesses
Get personal by:
- Asking your club members who they know and can ask
- Making sure you get every letter signed so that it is a personal communication
- Getting your club members to sign the letters for the people they know and get the club members to deliver them
- Sending any letter to a named person in the business
Be effective by:
- Being relevant to your local agenda
- Giving the people you are asking flexibility in what they can contribute (don't just ask for money)
- Following up the letter with a phone call
- Giving the businesses something back, e.g. a mention in the local newspaper
Some things to include in the letter:
- Colour to enhance the visual appearance of the letter
- A clear call to action of where to send the donation
- A contact if they want more information
- Your club identity (e.g. logo)
Here is a letter that may give you some pointers. We don't claim it is perfect but it may help you along. You can download it by right click here and choosing "Save Target As".
