All GNAS and FITA Awards can be shot for at SAA shoots which have the approriate record status. Look for the status symbol on our shoot calendars. As well as the National and International awards the SAA has its own Thistle Fita badges and the Penicuik Clubs also has its own badges.
The Scottish Archery Association S.A.A. introduced the Thistle badges to give to give an award to archers shooting a "Thistle Status" Fita or Metric appropriate to their age groups. This status can be applied only to Fitas that are not "Star Status" and the tournament must be run in accordance with GNAS/FITA rules and for Scottish Record Status dress regulations must be in accordance with GNAS rules. The minimum level of judge required is County.
The Thistle award is an enameled badge in the shape of a stylised thistle. The Juniors' badges have a white crown, the Seniors' badges have a blue crown. Awards are available 1000, 1100, 1200 and 1300.
Why a Thistle? The Thistle is a well recognised emblem of Scotland.
The Penicuik Archery Club introduced their Penny Awards in 2005 to be awarded at the Penicuik Fita shoot run in June each year. You can collect the badges in any order and can get more than one of the same colour if you want, as long as you shoot a valid score, i.e. only one badge per tournament. The awards start at 950. The Penicuik Club run several tournaments each year including one of the GNAS Premier events for the SAA.
