GLASGOW ARCHERS HIT THE MARK WITH INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY ARCHERY CAMPAIGN THROUGH GLASGOW 2026 FESTIVAL

Glasgow Archers’ Volunteers Hit the mark with inclusive community Archery campaign through Glasgow 2026 Festival as part of 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

A dedicated team of volunteers from Glasgow Archers have successfully introduced the sport to over 150 participants across Glasgow through an intensive multi-week community outreach campaign. Between 30 May and 17 June, the initiative broke down traditional barriers to sports participation by delivering tailored sessions to diverse groups, including young children, ethnic minority communities, women-only groups, and students with complex support needs.

The campaign showcased the versatility of the sport, utilizing both traditional and adaptive ‘soft’ archery equipment. Key milestones included a multi-week beginners' course at Whitecraigs RFC, well attended by female and minority participants, and an incredibly popular taster session for the Amina Muslim Women’s Friendship Group. The programme also prioritized adaptive sports, delivering specialized sessions at Hazelwood School to ensure primary and secondary pupils with visual impairments and sensory issues could fully experience the joy of archery.

"Our goal was to show that archery truly is a sport for everyone, regardless of age, background, or ability," said a club representative. "Thanks to the incredible dedication of our volunteer coaches, who turned out in high numbers to support every session, we were able to provide safe, high-quality, and impactful experiences for participants ranging from ages 3 to 16 and older. The response from local schools, scout groups, and community hubs has been overwhelmingly positive."

With successful events also hosted at Langside and Blackfriars Primary schools, St. Andrew’s Secondary School, and for Govan Scouts, the club has laid a strong foundation for future grassroots sports integration in the region. Following the success of this campaign, the club aims to continue its inclusive programming and welcomes further partnership inquiries from local schools and community organisations.
