Round Up: 2024 Scottish National Indoor Championships

18 Mar 2024

At the weekend, 76 competitors took part in our 2024 Scottish Indoor National Championships at the Alistair McCoist Complex in East Kilbride in South Lanarkshire.  This was a new location with previous events being hosted across the country which meant there were was lots of work from the volunteer event team including members of East Kilbride Archery Club who pitched in to get everything ready.  This included transportation and setting up of bosses, netting and much more which involved all hands on deck.

There were some fantastic performances throughout the weekend and lots of tight scores with not much separating the competitors across all of the categories: Junior, Novice Disability, Masters, Barebow, Longbow, Recurve and Compound.

Lyndsay Noon, Chief Executive of Scottish Archery reflected on the weekend:

‘‘What a fantastic weekend at the National Indoor Championships in East Kilbride. Great atmosphere, great number of participants, great performances, and some great conversations.

Well done to all who took part, especially all the people who came along to the event for the first time. Lovely to see some new faces, as well as the familiar ones.

Behind the scenes there is a lot of volunteer and staff time involved in making this event happen. A huge thank you to the dedicated group of volunteers we have in archery who make these events possible. We appreciate you all.’’

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Fiona Hirst who after a long period, is stepping down from the Tournament Organiser group.   We are sad to see Fiona leave however we will hopefully continue see Fiona involved in Archery in the future.

Fiona reflected on the weekend and thanked everyone who was involved in making it happen:

‘‘I was thanked a lot this weekend for all my hard work at the Scottish indoors . But I am not alone in what I do . Behind the scenes are a group of people who also deserve the thanks.

The TO group (Lance and Andrew ) your advice and help is invaluable with the SAA tournaments.  So many people expect things to just happen without realising the hours of hard work that have to go into planning - thank you!

To Curtis - your expertise and knowledge is second to none and although you are very busy , you always try to find the time to help- can never have done this without you.  Can’t thank you enough

Last but not least - Malcolm . Without complaints ( but maybe occasionally rolling eyes) you are always there by my side helping with equipment , plans , computer programmes and so much more . Thank you.

To all volunteers everywhere - you are what make your sport happen . Never ever underestimate your worth!!’’
