Ahead of the AGM there is the need to clarify the new proposed membership categories, which were proposed to align to the Archery GB membership categories. Â Direct membership has previously meant members who affiliate to Archery GB and Scottish Archery directly, and not via a club. We have not removed the Direct Membership option; the change is that there will be no distinction, or difference in cost between a club member and someone who does not shoot within a club. For example, someone living on the Isle of Arran can still become a member by taking out the senior, junior or archer with a disability membership (previously this would have been considered a Direct Membership).
Likewise a club administrator can still affiliate all club members on behalf of those members, or they can ask individual club members to affiliate directly via Just Go (and Sport 80). The only element the resolution will change is that there is now no reduction in fee to a member connected to a club. Â All members would pay the same membership fee and are classed as members, whether they are direct members or club members. This is the Archery GB model. We have held numerous consultation sessions on this topic through Fireside chats and area working groups, and the consensus has been that it would be more beneficial for members to align to Archery GB, despite losing current discounted rates.
Scottish Archery will still provide the hardship fund for anyone who is having financial difficulties and is finding it a challenge to pay their fees. For example, a student who attends a university without an archery club, can contact Scottish Archery to ask for special dispensation if they cannot afford the full rate. This is open to anyone, and any individual in this situation should contact Scottish Archery directly for support. Next year we plan to host an online AGM resolution information evening three weeks prior to the Annual General Meeting to allow for a deeper discussion with members about the proposed resolutions.
