Community Update - October 2024

31 Oct 2024

The team from Scottish Archery delivered an engaging session for Sport Development pupils at Williamwood High School, where over 80 pupils experienced archery. Each participant left with exciting content to share during their primary school placements.

Additionally, we are eager to run leadership sessions in high schools, introducing pupils to the role of activity leaders. This initiative allows them to assist coaches during sessions, fostering leadership skills and increasing engagement. We can accommodate larger groups while maintaining the quality of delivery.

Robert has been busy delivering to Women’s Aid. At the refuge, we’ve introduced peer groups that run for six weeks after school. This initiative allows mothers to take a well-deserved hour for themselves while fostering connections among the young people living here.

To tailor our activities, we conducted a questionnaire to find out what our young people are interested in. One exciting suggestion was Archery! We reached out to Scottish Archery and had a productive meeting with Robert, who generously agreed to provide an archery lesson during the school holidays.

We’re pleased to share that two of our young participants attended the lesson and had a fantastic time! Here’s what they had to say:

  • “I had a great time learning how to use the bow and arrow.”

  • “I had lots of fun; I want to do this again!”

We look forward to more fun and engaging activities in the future!

More recently, Robert has successfully trained 50 young people in soft archery through the Trinity High School Session. These aspiring young leaders are currently participating in a sports development course, which includes a key task: to introduce various sports in their local primary schools and coach an after-school club. Excitingly, they will showcase their skills by delivering a soft archery event at their primary schools at the end of November.
