Round Up: 2026 Scottish National Indoor Archery Championships - Stirling

30 Mar 2026

On a crisp spring weekend at the University of Stirling – Scotland’s ‘University of Sporting Excellence’, the rhythmic thump of arrows hitting foam echoed across the sports hall, signalling the return of one of Scotland’s most anticipated archery gatherings: the 2026 Scottish National Indoor Championships. Held over 28–29 March, the annual indoor weekend once again transformed Stirling’s celebrated campus into a lively meeting point for archers of every age, style, and ambition.

What unfolded over those two days was more than a competition. It was an occasion of skill, determination, mentorship, and community — a showcase of Scotland’s archery heartbeat.  The event formed part of the annual Scottish Archery Indoor Weekend, which continues to grow in scale and participation each year.

The programme included eight championship categories, all built around the 2026 Indoor Weekend’s two primary round types: AGB Portsmouth and WA 18m rounds (three total).

Across the weekend, archers competed in the following events:

  • Junior & U21 Championships

  • Novice Championships

  • Disability Championships

  • 50+ Championships

  • Senior Barebow Championships

  • Senior Longbow Championships

  • Senior Recurve Championships

  • Senior Compound Championships

Some championships were shot simultaneously using the same round, requiring archers to select their preferred category for each session. The aim was to ensure that every archer had a meaningful opportunity to compete.  While established athletes often draw the spotlight, it was the novices — many appearing in their first national competition — who drew some of the loudest cheers. Every X, every gold, and sometimes simply every hit, earned encouraging nods from coaches, volunteers, and families positioned behind the line.

Congratulations to all the competitors and special shoutout to the medallists in each event.

As the sport continues to expand within Scotland, events like the National Indoor Championships play a central role in developing athletes, nurturing community spirit, and promoting excellence across all categories.

Large events rarely run smoothly without dedicated volunteers, and the 2026 Indoor Weekend Prospectus made a point of recognising this. It reminded participants that dozens of individuals had given their time to build a weekend filled with fairness, opportunity, and enjoyment.  This includes a fantastic team of Curtis Hirst, Malcolm Alexander, Fiona Hirst, Phyllis Pettett & Nessa Dunmore (Falkirk Company of Archers), Ciaran Murphy (Bannockburn Bowmen) and the Judging Team led by Frank Schallmoser.  Also a shoutout to Scottish Archery Events Subgroup on help with the planning and lead up to the  event which includes Alan Izzard, Lance Hawker, Andrew Kelly, Fiona Acamovic and Erin-Ann Dobbin.

As athletes packed up their bows and coaches gathered for end‑of‑day debriefs, talk had already shifted to the year ahead. And if the energy in Stirling was any indication, Scotland’s archery future is drawing closer to the gold every year.

Lyndsay Noon, CEO of Scottish Archery shared the below on the weekend:

“Moving to a larger venue wasn’t just about space, it was about ambition. This year our indoor championships delivered on every level with outstanding performances and an unforgettable atmosphere. A huge thank you to our staff and volunteer team for putting on an expertly organised event, one of our best yet! And well done to every archer who took part. We hope to see you all next year”.

Curtis Hirst, Assistant Competition & Entries Manager added:

‘‘It was amazing to see so many archers having a great time. Scottish Archery’s headline competition has once again grown in size. We had athletes from south of the border come and compete, as well as from the Scottish islands! I hope that next year it grows again and we can come back to a fantastic venue!''
