There is still time to sign up to our Archery GB Level 2 Development Coach which starts on Monday 27th October.
The Level 2 course equips coaches with the skills and knowledge on how to develop new archers through designing and delivering learning. It aims to help people continue their archery journey beyond their initial beginner's experience. Lack of support following a beginner's course is one of the biggest reasons people leave a new sport.Â
The bonus of having a modular structure to these courses is that you can sign up to one module at a time.
Below is further info on the modules including dates, times and costs:
When you register for this module, you will be sent the Development Coach Workbook. This module introduces the award and takes you through what you need to do to complete the qualification. You have two years with which to complete the Development Coach course modules
Monday 3rd November (19:00-21:00) – Develop the Archer in Front of You (1/2) - £30
Monday 17th November (19:00-21:00) – Develop the Archer in Front of You (2/2) - £30
Designing a progressive series of sessions that addresses the needs of your archers, is essential for your archers to experience noticeable progress over a period of time. This module will help you understand how to prepare a coaching programme taking into consideration key design factors, including the needs of the person in front of you, goal setting, training principles, mental skills, equipment, anatomy, and nutrition.
Monday 24th November (19:00-21:00) – Empowering Archery Part 2 (1/2) - £30
Monday 1st December (19:00-21:00) – Empowering Archery Part 2 (2/2) - £30
One of the biggest responsibilities that a coach has is setting the motivational climate for a coaching session. This module, designed by the University of Birmingham and tailored specifically to archery, explores the evidence around motivation and applies it to real-life archery scenarios, enabling coaches to learn how they can create good relationships and an optimal climate for their archers to enjoy and succeed in archery.
Â
This module builds on the knowledge acquired in the Introduction to Technique. It includes more details on shooting technique and a further evolution of the drills and skills used to support the development of good shooting technique. You’ll learn the importance of using a progression of resistance, intensity, and feedback in your coaching. You’ll also learn how to use photos and video to analyse archery technique.
This day will give you an opportunity to practise your coaching skills on real life archers under the supervision of your coach developer.
Saturday 21st March (Full Day) – Recurve Equipment Selection, Setup & Tuning – Leith Academy - £85
Covers the selection of a first competition standard recurve bow, how to set it up, how to tune that bow to the archer, and includes some practical opportunity to try some tuning.
Sunday 22nd March (Full Day) – Compound Equipment Selection, Setup & Tuning – Leith Academy - £85
Covers the selection of a first competition standard compound bow, how to set it up, how to tune that bow to the archer, and includes some practical opportunity to try some tuning. Coaches choose to complete either the recurve or compound equipment module to achieve the Development Coach qualification. Participants can choose to take both (at extra cost).
Saturday 16th May (Full Day) – Coach Presentation Day – Sight Scotland Linburn, Edinburgh - £85
This module provides you with the time to try out and practice what you’ve learned from the other modules. It is our goal to give you confidence in your ability to develop an archer’s shooting technique. On this final day, you will present your coaching journey working with an archer to improve their shooting technique. You will then have an opportunity to lead a discussion with your peers and to get feedback about your journey and what you’ve learned.
Supported Practice (throughout the course)
We recommend you find a local Level 2 mentor. You will complete 12 hours of work which may include the coaching you are doing with your individual archer.
The course includes a series of assessments, designed within a supportive programme of learning that helps you achieve successful outcomes.
