A huge congratulations to Simon Garforth passed his practical assessment and is now a fully qualified Archery GB Regional Judge. A thank you to judging team who have supported Simon through this and its great to see the Archery GB Judging Team grow further and develop in Scotland.
Simon stated his delight on his achievement:
‘‘I’m so happy to have achieved Regional Judge it means a great deal I couldn’t have done it without the help of all the judges, and especially the judges that helped on the day. I want to stay as a regional judge I have no plans to try for National Judge at the moment I want to build up my experiences, and to help our current and future candidate judges to achieve their goals too.”
Scottish Archery’s Events Coordinator Fiona Hirst added:
"Congratulations to Simon Garforth who passed his Regional practical assessment at the Silver Arrow shoot in St. Andrews on Saturday. This is a great achievement and Simon has been working extremely hard for his regional grade. Scottish Archery are excited that we have judges that are progressing through the grades as well as new candidates who are joining the ranks. Give back to the sport you love by becoming an Archery GB registered judge. Archery GB invites any of our members over the age of 16 to train as an archery judge.
Becoming an Archery GB judge is an excellent way for our members to take an active part in the archery community, whether you are still shooting, taking a break from shooting, or are no longer shooting. Many of our archers become judges when they find themselves with less time to practice, but still want to stay a part of the archery world. You can still compete as an archer and be a judge, just not at the same event. When you judge is up to you, as is how many competitions you volunteer at. Most judges participate at a minimum of 12 events a year, though it is possible to judge more often.
The pathway for Judges includes:
*Field Captain (optional step before starting AGB pathway, which is managed by ourselves at Archery GB, if looking to hold informal closed SRE shoots during club time).

All Archery GB judges are volunteers. Our judges are an integral part of the archery community, keeping our sport fair, safe, and fun for everyone who participates. In order to ensure this, we offer an excellent initial training, with ongoing training seminars available at every tier of judging. While there is no pay for judging, tournament organisers reimburse judges for their travel expenses and provide meals and refreshments at the event.
Archery judging is a great way to give back to archery. Are you interested in helping make archery competitions happen? From informal club shoots to national tournaments, judging is a great way to be involved in the sport at a deeper level and help archers of all stages.
