The British Championships is an event which brings together archers from up and down the UK who are aiming to become the best target shooter that this country has to offer.  Hosted at the home of Archery GB (AGB), Lilleshall National Sports Centre there were a total of 20 archers from Scotland competing at the weekend in what was also Stage 6 of the AGB National Tour.

Day 1

Day 1 was a WA1440 round with archers shooting at multiple distances across the day – a test of focus, concentration and endurance.

RECURVE

In the Recurve Women’s category, Debbie Geddes (Lethen Archers) finished in the middle of the standings in 31st place, with a score of 1169 continuing her consistent level at these events.  Not far behind was fellow Northern Area member Rebecca Leigh (Aberdeen City Archers), scoring 1124.  Kayleigh Ivanov (Balbardie Archers) finished  41st shooting a solid 296 at 60m and Kristin Ward (Ayr Archery Club) who has been transitioning from the junior to senior circuit, place 48th shooting at 70m and 60m comfortably and finishing with 293 in last round.  Great effort from all the women in this category.

Off the back of his European Grand Prix success, Erik Rowbotham (Edinburgh University Archery Club) placed 18th overall after shooting a 1224 in the Recurve Men’s category.  Hot on his heels was fellow Scot Joshua Phillips (Links Archers) who has been on fine form recently.  Joshua was only one point behind Erik with a score of 1223, finishing 19th overall.  Further to this, GB Para Squad member Cameron Radigan (Largs Archery Club) scored 1222 (again a single point difference) placing 21st overall.  Their quite a few other archers in action:

  • Gilbert Jamison (Balbardie Archers) – Score of 1170 – Overall Ranking 34th

  • Ross MacLeod (Balbardie Archers) – Score of 1168 – Overall Ranking 36th

  • Callum Newlands (Reigate Priory Bowmen) – Score of 1160 – Overall Ranking 38th

  • Shay Boyd (Largs Archery Club) – Score of 1140 – Overall Ranking 48th

With close scores in this event, it’s a clear demonstration of the high standard of performances throughout the lineup of archers – well done everyone!

COMPOUND

Sarah Prieels (Edinburgh University Archery Club) was looking to put in a performance to prepare for stage 6 the following day.  It was another solid performance with a 5th place finish, scoring 1360.  Fellow EUAC member Stephanie Clason managed to break into the top ten, finishing an impressive 9th, scoring 1343.  Only a point behind, Robyn Geddes (Lethen Archers) finished in 11th place again showing the marginal differences in performances.  Kirsty Robb (New Century Bowmen) was not far off in 20th place, scoring 1305.

It has been a successful outdoor season so far for Finlay Clark (York Archers Society) and this evident in the Compound Men’s category he competed in.  A score of 1368 put him in 6th place in a very competitive field.  James Ross (East Kilbride Archery Club) battled hard in the windy conditions.  Overall ranking 41st, with a score of 334 at 70m proving not too bad level of shooting at all, with total score of 1279.

Well done to all the Compound archers!

BAREBOW

In the Barebow Men, Steven Brison (Dundee Archery Club) put in a notable performance with a score of 916, ranking 13th and good preparation for Sunday.   William Anderson (Dundee University Archery Club) after a sweep of Golds at Youth Festival 2025 earlier that week was aiming to build on this success.  William was a single place below Steven in 14th with a score of 903.  Finally Simon Reeves (Balbardie Archers) was also competing in what was a competitive category.  Well done to all the competitors!

Day 2

Day 2 was the final stage (stage 6) of the AGB National Tour, which was WA 70m & 50m round followed by WRS  head-to-head eliminations.  This was the chance for many archers to rack up points with the aim of securing a place in The Finals.  The majority of archers who competed on Day 1, were also in action too.
