Club member Adelle Fleming shares with us Lasswade Archery Club’s journey and development with success of archers at national and area level, a team of dedicated coaches and membership that ranges from 10 to oldest member Ian Hunter who is 91 years old!
Thanks Adelle!

Lasswade Archery Club (LAC) was founded in 1979, making it one of the oldest in Scotland, we are a thriving archery club situated within Midlothian and are affiliated with Archery GB and the Scottish Archery Association, where we fall under the Eastern Area.
Currently the club has 82 members and we offer 4 sessions a week, indoors at Lasswade High School Centre, and outdoors at Grove farm. LAC has Archers in all disciplines and has representatives in the East of Scotland Archery Squad. A number of Members both past and present have shot for Scotland with one member having represented Scotland over 20 times.Â
Our oldest member, Ian Hunter, is 91 years old and still shoots at least twice a week. We believe Ian might be the oldest active member in Scotland, perhaps you can let us know if you have an older archer? At the other end of our membership are Beau and William, who only have 80 years to go until they reach Ian’s age!
We have active coaching sessions and are lucky to have 6 coaches, who are either session or development coaches, and we run beginners courses twice a year in October and in March. We have a number of members who compete both indoors and outdoors, and last year, 3 of our members represented the eastern area in county team championships in Lillieshall.

In the recent Scottish indoor championships, we were very proud that Beau, who had only been shooting a few months and only a week with her new bow, won the junior ladies under 12 section. Another LAC member, Kyle Robertson, won overall non classified compound at the Open Championship, and Agnes Taylor won the disabled Ladies recurve section.

We give every member an opportunity to gain an indoor and outdoor classification by having a classification shoot on the last Saturday of each month and have a number of fun shoots throughout the year; a spooky shoot at Halloween, a haggis shoot on St Andrews, a Valentine’s day shoot and a William Tell shoot to name but a few.
