Day 4 of Scottish Women & Girls in Sport 2025

9 Oct 2025

Today we are shining the spotlight on the Women & Girls Coaching Academy (WGCA).

WGCA was set up with the mission of providing a dedicated space and support programme, with the aim of encouraging more women and girls to take up coaching roles.

The objectives of the programme include:

  • Space for women & girls to share their journey, inspire each other and reflect together on progress and challenges

  • Create a female coaching community within Scotland, bringing people together to support each other

  • Gain insight into challenges females face when getting into coaching and identify collective solutions to reduce potential barriers

  • Provide support through Coach Education subsidy which covers minimum of 50% of course costs

  • Partnerships with organisations that can support and provide expertise to programme

Currently out of the 59 Archery GB Licenced Coaches in Scotland, 19 are female (32%) which can be compared to the national average of females being 51%. This suggests that females are underrepresented within coaching roles.

On 20th October, the group will kick off their coaching journey with Module 1 of the Archery GB Session Coach Level 1 course with sessions running until early December

For 2026 we have some further workshops planned, exploring ways to inspire the next generation of young archers to pick up a bow!

We would like to thank the participants and mentors for their enthusiasm and passion, and look forward to seeing what the future holds.
