Erin's success at the prestigious 2025 JVD Open

A huge congratulations to Scotland’s Erin Ann Dobbin who finished 7th in the Barebow Women’s category at the 2025 JVD Open.  Erin was part of the Scottish contingent who travelled to the Netherlands to compete against some of the world’s best, attracting 1249 archers in total, across 46 countries.  Scots competing included Steven Brison, Freya Rennie, Joshua McMillan, Ellis White, Erik Rowbotham, Craig Paterson, Alaistair Shields, Olivia Kendal, Maree Shields, Kristin Ward, Rogan Thomson, Caitlin Orr and Alex Johnston. 


A one-of-a-kind event in the European archery calendar, the JVD Open combines different elements to make it the place to be for all archers. The event provided archers  the opportunity to shoot among the pros in this unique competition format.


It was a solid start in qualifying for Erin, scoring an impressive 787 to secure her place in the finals.  In the finals, Erin shot her best round with a score of 273 – excellent performance all round!

We spoke to Erin who has managed to reflect on what has been a whirlwind of emotions no doubt after her success:


How does it feel to finish 7th at the 2025 JVD Open, being such a prestigious archery competition?


‘‘It still feels a bit like a dream! My first international competition and I’ve came away as a finalist, it’s just an incredible feeling and I’m so proud’’


Overall, how did you feel your performance went?


‘‘I’m feeling really positive about my performance, I was within the top 8 consistently throughout the qualifying rounds, so was shooting strong all weekend.’’


How did you feel during your walk out entrance?


‘‘Surreal! To see so many people cheering me on and knowing so many people back in Scotland were tuning in to see me was incredible, I’m so proud to fly the flag for Scotland’’


How did you remain focused throughout your performance?


‘‘Just focused on my shot routine and tried to keep myself as grounded as possible, good music is definitely a must!’’

What makes this event so special?


‘‘This was my first international competition and honestly I would recommend it to everyone. It’s so unique but inclusive, and you get to meet so many international archers!’’



What is the next competition for you?


‘‘I’ll be flying the flag for Scotland once again at the Home Nations Cup at the National Indoor Championships in December!’’

‘‘All my Scottish archers who supported me both at the event and also through messages of support. But special thank you to my Coach in the Box and absolute lifesaver Freya Rennie, who kept me calm and collected and brought all the good vibes for the finals!’’
