Learning, Sharing & Growing Together: WGCA Mentors

4 Jun 2026

Over the last couple of months, Active Advantage enjoyed working with a group of mentors from Scottish Archery Women & Girls Coaching Academy (WGCA) sharing ideas, experiences, and learning together.

They have hosted a series of mini sessions focused on:

  • Finding purpose through a range of reflective tools — including Ikigai, which really resonated with participants

  • Exploring different mentoring approaches

  • Creating meaningful and effective endings in mentoring relationships

It’s been great to see the openness, curiosity, and commitment from everyone involved. These conversations have reinforced just how valuable mentoring can be — not only for growth and development, but for creating genuine connection and purpose.

A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed, shared insights, and made these sessions so engaging. Looking forward to continuing the journey together.

The Women & Girls Coaching Academy (WGCA) aim is to provide a dedicated space and support programme for females interested in coaching, with the aim of encouraging more women and girls to take up coaching roles.  Further to this, only 32% of Archery GB (AGB) licenced coaches in Scotland are women & girls, which compared to the national average of females being 51% is considerably lower. This suggests that females are underrepresented within coaching roles.

The programme started back in August 2025 and has 11 participants supported by 5 mentors.  From here, the group completed the AGB Session Coach Level 1 course, running from October to April.  Meanwhile, mentors have been supporting participants with some in-person meetups and online/phone calls to discuss ideas and any challenges.  Coming into the new year, there have been some check-in calls to allow reflection and the chance to come together as a group. This Monday is the final group call, which will provide chance for participants chance to share thoughts on the programme and next steps on their journeys as coaches and leaders for Women & Girls in archery.
