Leith Archers to present at Scottish ClubSport National Conference

Leith Community Archers (LCA) will be presenting at the Scottish ClubSport National Conference this year on 7th September.  LCA were established in 2013 with a community event. 100 people turned up to watch a showing of the film Brave and took part in an Archery trial session.

Organised by Inspiring Leith, part of a new community project across Scotland called Link Up, run by Inspiring Scotland and hosted by Bethany Christian Trust in Leith. The aim was to build a community around activities and see people gaining and sharing skills.

The club achieved SCIO status (SC045559) and began to run as an independent charity. LCA is managed by board members, volunteer instructors,  and regular attendees.

The main aims and objectives of the Club is to

• 'The advancement of public participation in sport'.

• 'The provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities. The object of which is to improve the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended'.

  
  

The club has also adopted a strong sense of community awareness. Our aims are to reduce the effects of poverty and strengthen community bonding and equality.

The club sessions are run by a group of volunteer instructors and regular attendees.  Members can be voted into a board position at the AGM to lead the direction of the club.

Brief outline of presentation:

Will explain how the club went from small club to delivering workshops and partnerships with other voluntary organisations such as Inspiring Leith, Edinburgh Council, Archery GB – while still retaining their charities ethos, individuality and purpose.
