Archery just got a lot more accessible thanks to a fresh new initiative designed to get people of all ages and abilities hitting the bulls-eye. On Monday, team members from the national program joined forces with Clackmannanshire Council’s Active Summer lineup and the Wee County Archers (WCA) to officially drop the brand-new Ready Steady Shoot (RSS) Leaders Information Pack.
Ready Steady Shoot is a national participation program aimed at breaking down barriers to entry for the sport. The program focuses on bringing communities together, boosting mental and physical health, and helping local clubs build stronger ties with area schools to get more young people involved.
Backed by sportscotland’s Summer of Sport funding, this year's summer event proudly featured archery as a flagship activity. Staff members Robert Clark and Euan Murray spent the day out on the field with participants and WCA coaches Abigail, Jake, and Raymond. The coaches put the new program resources to the test, running through activities and providing live feedback—all while battling some seriously intense summer heat that required plenty of water breaks and mandatory time out in the shade.
The newly launched RSS Leaders Information Pack gives community groups everything they need to get started, broken down into three easy components:
The Leaders Award Training Course:Â A quick, two-hour course that gives leaders the tools and confidence to run soft archery sessions in almost any environment.
The Activity Resource Pack:Â A master list of fun, social games built for teamwork that can be easily adapted for any age group or skill level.
The Activity Sessions Pack:Â A straightforward blueprint for schools, youth groups, and community clubs looking to set up their own soft archery programs from scratch.

‘‘What a great day in the sun with enthusiastic participants and coaches shooting arrows! It was great to be invited along and allowed us to launch our Ready Steady Shoot Leaders Information Pack. We aim to provide a resource that can be picked up by anyone to deliver safe, fun and inclusive soft archery activity, so more people across Scotland can experience the physical and mental health benefits of archery as well as providing a gateway into full archery.’’
