As part of Volunteers' Week 2026, we would like to take the opportunity to thank some of our remarkable volunteers who are dedicated, committed and passionate in making archery an engaging and inclusive sport for all. Today we would like to say thank you to Abigail Henderson of Wee County Archers.
Abigail is one of Wee County Archer’s  key members. At age 15 she has been with the club for last 6/7 years and over this time she has take on more than just a participant role. By the age of 12 she had completed her Soft Archery Leaders Award and took on a leadership role within the soft archery weekly sessions.
Â
She acted not only as range captain, but also leading the sessions, supporting the primary aged archers to improve their skills and deliver games to keep them engaged. Since that time she has expanded her volunteering wider than our weekly Monday night sessions. She has delivered soft archery to pupils in P1-7 at Easter, October and Summer camps for the last 4 years on behalf of the Clackmannanshire Active Schools team, leading these sessions and inspiring the pupils to progress into our club.
Â
Abigail has also volunteered and delivered sessions at the annual Central Disability Sport event, acted as range captain at both the local schools competition and at this years National competition in June. Annually, the club takes part in the Archery GB Start Archery Week and Abigail has attended every year to assist with the coaching of attendees and acting as a role model to encourage them to move into the club.
Â
She has also as part of Scottish Archery’s Women & Girls Coaching Academy (WGCA), earning an Archery GB Level 1 Session Coach qualification and completing sportscotland's Fit for Girls workshop. Further to this, she is now part of our Youth Panel which aims to give young people in our sport a greater voice and further representation.
Â
On top of all that Abigail helps her dad to set up the twice-weekly club sessions both indoors and outdoors, cutting grass, setting up the targets and ensuring that the ranges are ready before the archers arrive. Abigail's dedication and love of the sport are apparent to all and we are very lucky to have this young person  engaged and involved with our sport.
Back in March, she was awarded Young Member of the Year at our 2026 Scottish Archery Annual Awards Ceremony recognising her continued dedication and commitment to the sport.
