Competition Review - April 2024

30 Apr 2024

April was a slightly quieter month of competition.  At the beginning of the month, Aberdeen University Archery Club hosted their SRS Combined WA25/18m event at the Butchart Recreation Centre in Aberdeen.  Great work from the volunteer team for organising the event.

Following this was the 2024 Scottish Student Sport (SSS) Outdoor Championships and Outdoor Head to Head.  Peffermill once again played host to these prestigious events. The 27 acre Peffermill site offers a hugely impressive array of training and competition facilities for everybody to enjoy.  Despite the weather, the competitors braved the elements and tricky conditions managing to still perform to their best level.  The students even managed to fit in a lunch time clout shoot for a bit of fun!  Thanks to SSS Archery Volunteer Team of Gabriella, Erin & Jake for organising & running the competition.

Coming into May, the competitions are fast approaching.  Ayr Archery Club Open Competition takes place on 11th May which is a UK Record Status event at The William J.M.Mowat Playing Fields in Ayr.  The day after, Lochside Bowmen’s 42nd Annual Open Tournament will be held at Glamis Castle by kind permission of the Earl of Strathmore.

Entries are now live for the Scottish National Tour Stage 1 which will be hosted by Moray Archery on 25th and 26th May 2024.  The Scottish tour is the perfect event for archers aiming to further their competition skills and shoot alongside the best athletes in the country.  All stages will be a single world record status WA 70/50 round, followed by head-to-head eliminations.

Coming into June, it’s a jam packed month with competitions on every weekend:

  • 1st June – Junior Archery Series (JAS) Stage 3 organised by West of Scotland Archery Association (WoSAA)

  • 2nd June – West of Scotland Open Outdoor Championships

  • 8th & 9th June – Northern Area Outdoor Championships

  • 15th & 16th June - Bannockburn Bowmen Open Competition
