At the beginning of the month, The West of Scotland held their Open Championship Weekend along with a Vegas and WA18 shoot in February. This has turned out to be a very popular event selling out the Vegas and WA18 a month before the shoot. Read the full report from WoSAA’s Craig Paterson here
On the same weekend, the 2024 Glenlivet Frost-Bite a longstanding shoot for Barebow and Longbow archers took place hosted by Moray Archery.
The Scottish Student Sport (SSS) League Event 5 at the Oriam – Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh took place on 10th February. The SSS League has now concluded, with the results and medals being announced and awarded on alongside the SSS Indoor Championships
On 18th February, the Lochside Bowmen 12th Open Worcester SRS took place at Forfar Community Campus. The report from the event concluded: ‘‘Gentleman Patron for the day was Club President Mr Rory Cameron and Judges were John Sullivan and Mike Alexander. Thanks must go to everyone who helped set up the hall and for all the donations to the raffle. Congratulations to everyone who broke a Scottish Record or had a personal best’’.
More recently at the weekend, the Bannockburn Bowmen Open Double and Single Portsmouth took place on 24th February at Lornshill Academy Sports Complex, Alloa in Clackmannanshire.
For the month of March, one of the flagship events in the student calendar takes place – the SSS National Indoor Championships. University of St Andrews will once again host the prestigious Indoor Championships on Saturday 2nd March 2024! Best of luck to everyone at this event. This will be a WA18 round and each club is guaranteed 10 entries, although may enter up to 13 as ‘Non-Guaranteed’ Additional spaces will be based on a random draw. This will no doubt be a great weekend.
On the 10th March, the Northern Area Indoor Championships takes place at the Deveron Community and Sports Centre which is a UK record status event. Following on soon after, its the 2024 Scottish National Indoor Weekend where we are looking forward to welcoming archers from across the country to the Ally McCoist Complex on 16th & 17th March.
SSS Head to Heads (H2H) returns on 23rd March which is a much-loved Indoor H2H event part of the student competition calendar taking place at Strathclyde Sport! It will be a half-Portsmouth round on 60cm face. A ranking round (30 arrows on a Portsmouth / 60 cm face) is shot, and team scores are ranked and matched up for head-to-head matches. Head-to-head matches are shot on a Portsmouth / 60 cm face and will follow the points system used in recurve H2H competitions. For more info, click here
