Seven Clubs, with six rounds across 3 venues. The Glasgow Archery League returns this weekend on 5th October as East Kilbride Archery Club (EKAC) hosts the opening round at Eastwood High School.
The Winter Archery League is a community-driven initiative designed to bring together archers from across Glasgow and surrounding areas during the winter indoor season. It is organised by Iain McMillan, supported by team of volunteers and West of Scotland Archery Association. Its purpose is to encourage participation, build confidence in non-competing archers, and create a friendly competitive environment between local clubs.
The League was inspired by the long-running Ayrshire League format, which has been active for decades. To set up a Glasgow-based winter league, the organiser personally visited local clubs to gauge interest and discuss the feasibility of running events. The minimum requirement was access to a venue with at least 8 bosses and 20 yards of space to shoot a Portsmouth round, ensuring capacity for around 30+ archers (with a minimum team size of 4 plus additional attendees).
This year, events will be run to Scottish Ranking Events (SRS) status, with field captains in attendance at each event. Results will also be shared on completion to ensure rankings can be updated.
The seven clubs who will battle it out this season include Monklands Archery Club, Orion’s Archers, Glasgow Archers, Linwood Archers, East Kilbride Archery Club, Strathclyde University Archery Club and University of the West of Scotland (UWS) Archery Club.
