New Ready Steady Shoot programme

10 Jul 2026

We are excited to launch our brand-new national participation programme, Ready Steady Shoot.

Ready Steady Shoot (RSS) is the national participation programme run by Scottish Archery. It is designed to introduce people to archery in a structured, fun, and accessible way, helping beginners develop fundamental skills and confidence before progressing into regular club participation and competition pathways. Scottish Archery's broader mission is to create opportunities for people to participate, progress, and achieve within the sport.

Why does RSS it exist?

  • To provide an introduction to archery

  • Encourage new people to try archery and re-engage those who may have previously participated

  • Bring people and communities together through archery

  • Using archery to improve physical and mental wellbeing

  • Help organisations provide fun and inclusive activity to support new or existing activity Increase engagement particularly juniors for clubs

  • Bridge the gap and enhance links between Clubs and Schools

Ready Steady Shoot (RSS) Ambassador and Paralympian Nathan MacQueen MBE shared his thoughts on the new programme:

‘‘Great thing to have, to bring young people into the sport.  Making the sport more accessible opening up to new audience, which hopefully inspire more youngsters to take up archery.’’

Robert Clark, our Communities & Workforce Officer, shares the rationale behind the programme:

"The Ready Steady Shoot programme is about much more than just hitting a target; it is about building the confidence, focus, and resilience that young people will carry with them for life. By introducing soft archery in a safe, fun, and inclusive environment, we are breaking down barriers to entry and planting the seeds for the next generation of Scottish archers."

So far we have held two introductory calls for members and local authorities. The response so far has been positive and we look forward to getting things going in the next few months!
