On Saturday, U21 athletes headed down to Lilleshall National Sports & Conferencing Centre in compete in Stage 1 of the AGB Junior Archery Series. These events are very much an opportunity for the youngsters to showcase their talents, put into practice all their hard work from training and most importantly a chance to reconnect and catch up with friends, fellow archers and enthusiasts from across the home nations.
In the Compound Youth Men, Scot Finlay Clark who is a current GB Squad Member of York Archers Society managed to qualify in 3rd place with score of 680 with a series of impressive performances. Youngster Cairn Boyd of Largs Junior Archery Club who is only 13 years old was also competing in this category – well done Cairn!
Olivia Kendal of The Ancient Society of Kilwinning Archers (ASKA) competed in the Compound Youth Women section. She pushed her opponent all the way and was edged by a single point in the Last 16 round against Grace Coulum 137-136 – great effort though Olivia. In the Recurve sections, Kristin Ward (Ayr Archery Club) in the U18 Women category progressed through qualifying to face Charlotte Suet-Ching Chan of Wallingford Castle Archers. Ward shot some consistent scores however Chan clinched the win 6-2. In the U21 Men’s category, fellow teammates Shay Boyd (Largs Juniors) and Joshua Phillips (Links Archers) met each other in the final rounds, with Boyd taking the win in the end.
