Well done all the competitors and great to see some Scottish archers travelling to compete at the Archery GB 50+ Championships which took place in Badsey, Worcester.
In the Compound Men 50+, Kevin Duncanson took Gold after an impressive set of performances. Qualification started off well for Kevin, placing 4th with a score of 650. In the head-to-head rounds made it all the way through to the final where he won 142-139 against Stephen Edwards. Congratulations Kevin!
Alastair Shields of Prestwick St Cuthbert was also competing in this event. A steady qualification round saw Alastair place 21st with a score of 585. In the head-to-heads, it was a victory in the opener against Roger Moore, 135-130. In the next match, after a tight battle Alastair’s opponent Andrew Scott manage to edge the win 130-126. A great effort despite this and lots of positive to take away.Â
Alastair commented on the weekend:
‘‘Blustery conditions in qualifying made it extremely difficult, heavy rain came just in time for lunch , so we stayed dry. Constant wind made the conditions better for the h2h. The first one was close and second one was better bar one mistake which made the last end extremely tight but happy with a 9th.’’
Pamela Duncanson was competing in the Compound Women 50+ and put in a solid qualification round putting her in 6th place, after shotting 605. Pamela took the win in her first match in the knockouts however was narrowly beaten by opponent Rhona Halliday-Noden 131-127.  Despite this, a 7th place finish overall for Pamela – well done!
Frank Hynds of Balbardie Archers earned a top 10 finish in qualification with a score of 606 in the Recurve Men’s 50+ category. Frank progressed to the head-to-heads stage, reaching the Last 16 after impressive victories with 6-0 and 7-3 with an overall ranking of 9th. Fellow club member Gilbert Jamieson was not too far behind with a 26th place finish in qualification with a score of 582. Gilbert was unfortunate not to progress in the Head-to-Heads after losing 6-4 in what was very close opening match, finishing overall 33rd. Well done to both archers.
