We are pleased to publish this year’s selection policy for the Home Nations Cup -Indoors, which will be held during the National Indoor Championships at the NAEC in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire on Friday 4th December.
Following consultation with the Athlete Progression working group and input from archers, we have made some changes to the policy from last year, and those looking to apply are strongly advised to read the whole policy and open a discussion with the National Team Manager if there are challenges.
Fundamentally we’ve made two significant changes – the scope of scores included for selection purposes will be broadened from the previous competition to the previous selection (From December-October to October-September) which, as from the 2027 selection, includes a wider range of competitions for archers to gather scores. This change comes due to the requirement from Archery GB to finalise the team selection before General Sale of entries to the NIC weekend, which will also allow archers that are not selected for the Scotland Team to have a better chance of securing a place at NIC.
We have also made some small changes around the position of team reserve. Although at this competition the reserve shoots qualifying at the same time as the team, their score is only used if an archer from the team withdraws before completion of their score. The reserve will then also compete as part of the Team in the Team H2H in place of the other archer, but cannot be substituted in midway through a match.
This aligns our policy with the Outdoor competition, where the reserve is a non-shooting position. It has consequently been decided that the reserves will receive a Scotland shirt but will no longer receive a full cap (representative honour) unless their score is used for Scotland. They will continue to have the opportunity to fill gaps in other Nations’ teams and will be included in all other team activities.
Both of these changes have been made following input from a number of our senior archers and discussed at length within the Athlete Progression working group. We have made these changes to better align the policy to the Indoor season and remain open to discussing any suggested improvements for next year’s policy. Thank you for your understanding.
