Tuesday was the first day of the finals matches where some of our archers competed in the mixed team and team gold medal matches, then the Barebow Individual medal matches. The bronze medal matches were shot on Sunday for the team events but were awarded their medals today during the medal presentations. This year the finals field was the same one that our archers shot their qualification round on.
Â
The first match of the day for the Scotland team was the Barebow Youth Team gold medal match. William Anderson shot as part of team ‘Cisco’. Unfortunately, they narrowly lost each of their sets meaning they walked away with the silver medal and received it not long after their match during the medal ceremony.
Â
Within the Recurve U18 team matches, Zac Ibrahim shot as part of team ‘Picard’ in the pairs event. After losing their first set, team ‘Picard’ pulled it back and successfully won each of the following sets to win the match and the gold medal with a final score of 6-2.
Â
Shay Boyd shot as part of team ‘Rolet’ in the Recurve U21 team event. The first set ended in a draw then their opponents won the next two sets, winning the match, meaning that team ‘Rolet’ took the silver medal. Joshua Phillips and Luke Wheeler shot as team ‘Animal’ in the Recurve U21 pairs event. Comfortably taking a 6-2 win, leaving with the gold medal.
Â
During the Compound matches, Molly Joyce shot in team ‘Moe’ in the Compound Women’s Youth team event. They came away with the silver medal after losing the match 221-204. Ellis White shot in team ‘Marge’ in the Compound Youth Men’s team event. After leading the match for the first three sets, they narrowly missed out on the gold medal after the other team took a two-point lead finishing the match 213-210. They were all awarded their medals during the medal ceremony along with Cairn Boyd who received his Compound Youth Men’s team bronze medal that he won on Tuesday.
To finish off the day, William Anderson took to the finals field again for the Barebow Individual gold medal match. After winning the first set, Will narrowly missed out on the next few meaning that he walked away with the silver medal.
Of course, Fluffy watched each match in anticipation, cheering on our Scottish archers, after managing to make his way into the Director of Shooting tent! He even made it onto the podium with some of our archers.
On Wednesday, Joshua Phillips shot in the Recurve U21 Men’s gold medal match against Liam Jordan. It was a very tight match to watch ending in a one arrow shoot-off. Joshua shot first, scoring an 8 and unfortunately Liam finished the shoot-off with a 9 meaning that Joshua walked away with the silver medal.
Sadly, this is the last report of the week. Every single archer who represented Scotland this week did themselves and their country proud! They worked well together, supporting one another and we hope they all enjoyed wearing their Scotland shirts with pride!
Â
Many thanks to everyone who has supported our archers this week including the parents, management team and to all those involved in running another successful Youth Festival.Â
