Youth Festival Day 5 Report

Day Five Friday 4th August 2023

The last day of the Youth Festival, individual finals day.

First up was Finlay Clark shooting in the U18 Compound Men against Edward Teggart. After a close start in challenging conditions, Finlay held strong having a convincing win to achieve a gold medal.

Next was Kathleen Morgan shooting in U21 Recurve Women against Kate Tonkinson.

After taking an early lead Kate pulled the score level. A refocused Kathleen held her nerve and went on to win the bronze medal.

The final match of the day was, Joshua Phillips in the U21 Recurve Men against Darragh Joyce. Battling against the wind, Joshua fought back levelling the match.  With the last three arrows set to decide the match both competitors shot 26 taking the match to a shoot off where the arrow closest to the centre would take the medal.  A superb 10 by Joshua secured the shoot off and gold medal.

Medal Count - Gold = 10

Silver = 6

Bronze = 8

This is the final report of the 2023 Youth Festival. While the team collected a massive haul of medals, this is not what they were recognised for. The other archers commented on how the Scotland team warmed up together, ate together, shot together, and supported each other. This is a team that is being admired nationally for their professionalism as well as their ability.

We would like to thank all the volunteers, coaches and parents involved with the Scotland U21 Squad along with all the staff and volunteers at Archery GB for making Youth Festival possible.
